Poem for the Swap
|
MIDGES
I can't see'em, but I can hear 'em
and I sure as hell can feel 'em.
I feel 'em when they get in my eyes
I feel 'em when they buzz my ears.
I feel 'em, the fluttering tiny flies,
being washed away by my tears.
Yes, I feel 'em, but these hands can't tie 'em.
Alas, my friends, I'll just buy 'em!

The Rules
|
The rules for this swap have been quite simple: The most important point is, that only hooks with size 16 and smaller are allowed. The swap started up with sz 18 and smaller, but to talk Jimmy into this the swapmaster allowed 'Texas-Midges' as well. In Texas everything is a bit bigger than elsewhere, therefore he allowed sz 16 hooks.
Sign up deadline was December, 15th - however the swap filled up very quickly.
Flies are due to March, 1, 2002. We have 49 entries, so tie 50+ flies.
Please tag your flies with name and email-addy.
Thanks to Bob for hosting this event.

Swap's history
|
The swap started as a usual event, Bob called for 15 tyers which have to tie 15 midges in sz 18 and samller. The response was overwhelming, the swap was full within hours. Bob extended the number of tyers twice - coming out with 49 tyers in the end. It became a international swap as well - tyers from the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia, Australia and Germany are involved.
We had very view drop outs. Our swapmaster extended the deadline to ensure, that some late boys were able to finish their flies. End of May everything was in, only 3 no-shows left. They will miss a great collection of flies.

These with a star (*) tie double sets. Remark: If you want (to be) a star at your name, you have to tie 2 flies for each swapper.
