Trailing Shuck Olive Emerger Tying instructions:

Take a length of Antron Yarn and divide it in two lengths so that it will not be too thick for a sz 20 fly. It can be left as is for larger size Emergers. Start thread behind the hook eye. Lay the tag end of the yarn so that a short length extends beyond the hook bend. This will be your trailing shuck. Make a couple of thread wraps over the Antron Yarn behind the hook eye to hold the yarn in place. Lay the fine silver wire along side the yarn to tie it in. Fold the long end of the yarn back over the top of the hook shank. Wrap the thread over the yarn and wire to the bend and down the bend a few wraps. Return the thread back to just behind the hook eye. It is a good idea to half hitch at this point.

From the bend of the hook wrap the yarn on the shank back to the hook eye, trap the yarn with a few thread wraps. Be sure the yarn is trapped on top of the hook shank. Wrap two or three rib wraps with the silver wire and tie off. Take the long end of the yarn , fold it back over the shank and over wrap to form a small head. Whip finish. Clip the yarn to form a short wing. Trim the trailing shuck with a small "V" in your scissors points. This will give you a ragged end on the shuck.
