Dean's comment to his fly:
|
I designed this fly with the Lower Owens river near the town of
Bishop,California in mind. the "LOW O" is a great Spring creek type
water that can be very taxing of your Flyfishing skills.....How I
love that aspect of the River!!!! Anyway, one must often fish Midge
patterns to get the wiley Browns to bite at anything. Tiger Midges and
Zebra Midges are 2 standards on the "Low O"....whilst tying up a
batch (to go and lose!!) I "brain-stormed" and put together the Prototype
for the Black Death Midge... Liking the over-all look I quickly tyed
a 1/2 dozen and put them in the box with the other Midges. The Black
Death Midge turned out to be very effective on the "LOW O"; along
with other waters I've fished it on. I hope it will work as well for
you. As to the name....I'd been reading a book about the Plague in
Europe at the time I designed the fly....
