- Place hook in the vice and dub rear 2/3rds of hook.
- Tie on the rear wing measured so that the tips don’t extend much
beyond the bend of the hook. It’s a good idea to whip finish or
half hitch the fly at this stage. (after the fish chew the foam up you
can just replace that without have to retie the whole fly)
- Cut some foam strips the width of the hook gap. I use 1/8 inch
thick foam for larger flies 10, 12 or 14. Smaller flies will need
thinner foam.
- Reattach your thread at the eye of the hook. Place a foam strip on
top of the hook with one end just in front of the tie-in point of the
rear wing. The foam strip should be extending out over the hook
eye. Take a firm wrap or two around the foam then put the bottom
foam strip in place with a few firm wraps. Lightly wrap the foam
back to the rear wing and let the bobbin hang there.
- Pull both strips back and wrap to make the bubble head. The whip
finish works best for me here.
- Cut top foam wing off even with the bend .
Cut bottom wing even with hook point.
With fine point scissors cut three even cuts in the strips.
Carefully remove the center strip of the bottom wing.
This will help with hooking more fish.
